Eagles grounded at Malden

The 2016 football season at East Prairie (2-3) will be remembered by #TheCatch. A devastating last second loss to arch-rival Scott City in Week 3 has sent the Eagles spiraling with two lopsided losses at a rugged Hayti Indian (5-0) squad and a state powerhouse (5-0) Malden 37-0 Friday night.

Chaffee (2-3) will be the next destination for a 2-3 Eagle team looking to even the record before the much anticipated Homecoming tilt with the longtime foe Portageville Sept. 30. Large reunion gatherings and the Second Annual Loop celebration is on tap for the #EpEagles will they return from a nearly month long road trek.

The Blue Jays (1-4) got back on the winning track in week 3 and had the (5-0) Scott City Rams on the ropes before losing a heartbreak by a point. The Jays hung tough with a talented (3-2) Caruthersville team Friday night at John Harris Marshall Athletic Complex before falling 56-16. A new scoreboard complex honoring the Marshall Family will be featured this week for  Homecoming Sept. 24 with Kelly (0-5).

SideNote ~ Not a fan at all of the Portageville run up on Kelly. 89-0. There is really no excuse for this coach Bullock. The running clock begins in Missouri at 35 point lead in the second half. There are ways to win and then there is a way to embarrass. And, that’s exactly what the Bulldogs did on a fledgling, struggling Hawk program that will not forget this for a long time. While, the Hawks have been contenders in basketball (both girls and boys) a stout baseball team and talented track squads, the football program is in it’s first year of conference affiliation and only playing the second varsity season of its history.

East Prairie is familiar with these type of beat down games, too, in its not so distant past. Schools; coaches, players and towns don’t forget easily.
