2016 Season kicks off Friday
New SEMO Conference alignment in shape
For the First Time in the 105 year storied history of the SEMO Conference there are now four divisions of competition. All aimed at balancing the playing field. This year will be a first for the East Division and West Divisions. The new South is the old Central and the North is still the large schools in SEMO.
Kelly at East Prairie
First East Division game jitters will be in play here for Kelly. So, will a talented and deep defense of the Eagles. A new Qb for Ep will give the team a different look but Coach Chad Jamerson has enough firepower on offense to put points on the board.
EP 42 Kelly 6
Sikeston at Charleston
The 132nd meeting of the two schools in one of the oldest rivalries in the country. And, of late, it’s been a one way street for the Bulldogs. There was talk that this would be the last meeting of the schools. For obvious and varied reasons. To my understanding after further research, that will not be the case. This is the first of a two year scheduling arrangement. So, there is at least one more meeting on the table.
Charleston will find the going tough at John Harris Marshall Athletic Complex but will compete with the much larger school as they have for a century and a third.
Sikeston 35 Charleston 8
NMCC at Malden
The Greenwave, fresh off an appearance in the Class 2A state title game will be rebuilding; well, re loading. Malden’s program is the one to beat in SEMO and this year will be no different. NMCC is under the guidance of a new coach and he will get the notice of where the Eagles have to go to competitive again.
Malden 44 NMCC 12
Caruthersville at Portageville
P’ville 32 C’ville 21
Fredericktown at Kennett
The Indians are better than they used to be and should be a force this season in the South. Don’t know much about Fred’town but Metz Cherry Stadium is a tough place to play.
Indians 21 F’town 14
Dexter at St. Gen
The Dragons and the Bearcats. Give this one to the real animals.
Dexter 8 St Gen 6
Riverview Gardens at Poplar Bluff
Give me the Mules because I’m stubborn.
PB 28 R’view 21
Hickman at Jackson
Are the Indians ready for Columbia, Hickman to start the season?
Hicks 34 Indians 14
Cape Central at Mountain View
Well, the Tigers are playing down in class size but not talent.
MV 34 CC 21
Foxes 14 Black Knight’s 0
Hayti at Thayer
Should be a good game. Thayer is a 1A power and the Indians always have talent.
Thayer 23 Hayti 22
Hillsoro at Scott City
H’boro 44 SC 2
Crystal City at Chaffee
The Red Devils are in a upswing on the cycle of small schools.
Chaffee 38 CC 13
