Cards In Regal Pursuit of #12N15
Capturing #11N11 Epic Classic Ride. Remember…?
Believe it or not, there was a time a few decades back where it wasn’t quite in vogue the way it is today to be a Cards fan.
The 70’s were bleak on the diamond at Busch Stadium. Deplete of winning anything. Feckless baseball with but the saving Grace of Lou Brock and his stolen base exploits giving us something to cheer.
But, that didn’t keep us from going to the games in St. Louis. As I kronicled in an earlier story on the #Kron, the youth League of East Prairie made an annual pilgrimage to the heat boiler that was Busch I Stadium back in the day.
Today, in 2015, the youth from the Eagle Leagues are some 305 miles away from the Prairie competing in the 2015 Cal Ripken Major/60 World Series in Monticello, AR.
Memories. Being made – and those that we recall. Like this one, from Game 6 of the 2011 World Series. Wowzer!
One I vividly recall, was as a 22-year old SEMO student, attending the first playoff baseball game in St. Louis since 1968 with my Father watching the Whitey Herzog edition of the Cardinals beat Ted Turner’s Atlanta Braves. It was Epic, too in 1982.
The city of St. Louis was in rapture that day. #Winning the 1982 World Series started a run of Cardinal baseball not equaled since the 1940’s. Their winning today is – laughingly – taken for granted it seems.
The 2015 Cardinals are 31-games over .500. On a pace to break All-Time Cardinal records. Amazing stuff.
Lackey’s surrender of a run today halted a scoreless innings streak that would have been hard for future Redbird editions to equal. No biggie. Check the standings. But, that’s not the measuring stick any Longer.
With #Winning comes #Expectations. Which requires dedication, perserverance and hard work. All of which requires no money; no big house; or car. Just Heart. And desire, which are easy and simple components each of us posses. Use them.
And, so it goes. The bar has been set high for the baseball Cardinals. Appearing in the playoffs is a given; winning a first round playoff – check; but, what have you done for me lately. The chink in the armor – by critics – is they can’t win the big one.
Ok. I got ya. That’s all right. Let me just enjoy the ride and the #Winning. Deal with the Losing and move #Onward. There will always be bumps in the road. Life ain’t easy. In fact, it can be down right cruel some times.
Dust yourself off; pull up the boot straps and even when you’re down to your Last strike. You’re never out. Cue Yogi!~
Sports – is a way in which we can kronicle our Lives; our ups and downs; and, all the inbetweens. It is a parallel barometer – if you will – of how we can relate to things in a historical context.
Even relate to the Yin and Yang of existence.
Furthermore, it’s not all that complicated either. Win. That’s the aim. Compete. Never give up. Lose. Learn how to. And, get back up off the ground and do it again.
Life is neverending – until it is.
Life is short. #YouNeverKnow
